From February 23rd to 26th, MCC Vice General Manager Xu Xiangchun and his delegation participated in the China-Philippines Cooperation Forum and investigated the market situation in the Philippines.
On February 24th, Xu Xiangchun attended the China-Philippines Economy and Trade Investment Forum. It was attended by over 300 representatives from the governments, financial institutions and enterprises of both countries. At the forum, business cooperation opportunities between China and the Philippines in such fields as infrastructure, capacity cooperation, industrial park construction, trade, e-commerce, building materials and new energy were primarily discussed.
During the visit, Xu Xiangchun met the heads of departments including the Philippines DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) Secretary, Superior Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary, Philippines National Construction Corporation President, Philippines Subic Bay Authority Chairman and Philippines Reclamation Authority Chairman. He also communicated with the principals of companies including the Manila Toll Highway System Management Company General Manager and Philippines World News Chairman. Xu Xiangchun introduced the overall situation of MCC to the above parties, pointing out that MCC Group ranked 290th in the ‘Fortune Top 500 Enterprises’ and 8th in the ‘Global Top 250 Contractors’ issued by ENR in 2016. It is the world’s largest and strongest metallurgical construction contractor and operation service provider for metallurgic enterprises, and the biggest steel structure production enterprise in China. As the trailblazer and constructor of New China’s steel industry, MCC assumes the design and construction work of nearly all large and medium-scale steel enterprises in China, accounting for a 60% share of the metallurgical construction market. Now MCC is actively conducting business transformation and upgrading, and has achieved significant breakthroughs such fields as industrial park development, large comprehensive stadiums, theme parks, high-end housing construction and municipal traffic construction. Overseas, MCC has established branches to carry out business in nearly 60 countries worldwide. MCC entered the Philippines market as early as 1983. It has completed the construction of many famous projects and has profound feelings for the Philippines. After President Duterte visited China in October 2016, economic and trade contact between China and the Philippines increased rapidly. MCC hopes to increase the development strength of the Philippines market by virtue of seizing opportunities to acquire achievements in the country again.
After hearing the introduction of MCC, the Philippines DPWH Secretary considered that MCC is completely able to conform to the requirements of the Philippines Government for its partnerships; he hopes that MCC will play an active role in the infrastructure construction of the Philippines, including highways and bridges, and he wishes to carry out long-term cooperation with MCC.
The Philippines National Construction Corporation General Manager gave a high affirmation of MCC's strength, and anticipated carrying out cooperation in such fields as toll highways, energy, electricity and water treatment.
The Philippines Subic Bay Administration Committee Chairman thought that MCC's core businesses conform highly to the development requirements and can completely meet the development needs of the Subic Bay area. He pointed out that Subic Bay will primarily development projects including highways, railways and industrial parks in order to deal with traffic congestion conditions, activate regional development potential and increase personnel employment. He hopes that the development plan of the Subic area can be smoothly realized in the medium and long term by common efforts with MCC.
Xu Xiangchun also held a wide discussion of issues including the main difficulties requiring solutions in the Philippines, the future development plans of the Philippines Government and MCC's competitive advantages and principal focus fields in the country. This visit deepened the understanding and mutual trust between MCC and various parties, who reached a consensus on strengthening cooperation and seeking common development in the future.
